Circuit de Barcelona set to confirm return of F1 Winter Testing in 2022…
It’s been widely reported for some time that the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya and the F1 Teams have pencilled in two separate test venues for next year’s pre-season tests – Barcelona and Bahrain. With Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya already signing their agreement to host the Spanish GP for another 5 years it seems the focus now turns to a separate testing agreement.
Originally it had been reported that the Teams were keen on a 5-day test in Barcelona however this will require changes to the Sporting Regulations as this would exceed the current three day limit.
“In principle we will have them here for three days in February,” says the circuit managing director Josep Lluis Santamaria.
“We only need the final push to reach an economic agreement and assess the price of the services they ask us for, but it is well under way,” he is quoted by El Mundo Deportivo.
“The forecast is that there will also be tests in Bahrain the week before the start of the world championship,” Santamaria revealed. “The teams need more running-in for the new cars.”
Provisional 2022 F1 Test dates
Barcelona – 23rd to 25th February 2022
Bahrain – 10th to 12th March 2022
